Newcastle United are one of the clubs interested in Argentine youngster Alan Velasco.

This is according to Foot Mercato, who say the Independiente starlet is drawing attention from European sides after his performances at the U17 World Cup in 2019.

The 17-year-old made two appearances for Argentina during last year’s FIFA tournament in Brazil, months after he made his first team debut for Independiente.

Velasco has made 10 first appearances in all competitions for Independiente’s senior team, but the South American is yet to score a goal or register an assist for them.

With a contract until 2022, the attacking midfielder has a $20m (approximately €17m) release clause in his contract.

According to the report, the teenager’s €17m buyout clause is ‘not enough to cool’ interest from the Magpies, Lyon and AS Monaco.

Should Newcastle manage to win the race for Velasco’s services, it’s unlikely that he would represent the Tyneside club’s first team immediately.
