Giovani Lo Celso never manage to fulfil expectations at Tottenham Hotspur and returning to Real Betis looked like the inevitable outcome for quite some time.
Betis had long wanted him back but struggle to finance a deal. In the end, Lo Celso joined the La Liga club and Spurs acquired a priority option for United States national team midfielder Johnny Cardoso and a percentage of a potential move elsewhere. That helped bring the cost down.
Spurs had initially signed the midfielder from the Spanish side back in 2019 after he was excellent for Betis, and he’s made an impact already, scoring a brace against Getafe yesterday.
Diario de Sevilla are now buzzing about the Argentine’s performance and how he has started life at the club, having made his debut at the weekend against Leganes.
He’s even on the newspaper’s front page, and they state the player has now returned to his natural habitat at Betis, where he’s controlling play and displaying ‘so much quality’ on the pitch. They hail the ex-Tottenham man, saying that ‘you don’t need to run’ if you are such a blessed technician on the ball, suggesting too much was asked of him physically at Spurs.
