Chelsea are set to start moving for the permanent transfer of João Félix, according to claims from Spain.

AS today writes that the Blues want the player bought ‘yes or yes’, and will schedule a meeting to speak to Atlético Madrid about the purchase in the coming weeks.

The report does not mention any numbers, only pointing out that with Chelsea wanting the signing ‘no matter what’, the deal could be done for a ‘significant amount’.

Atlético Madrid, meanwhile, have João Félix as their most expensive signing ever, having spent €127m to get him from Benfica in 2019. So they don’t want to ‘undersell’ him now, and will fight to receive a decent amount.

According to AS, Chelsea believe it’s a matter of time until the forward ‘explodes’, and have him as a ‘cornerstone of the project’.

The La Liga side don’t see a future for the player under Diego Simeone, and that’s why they should be fine in negotiating with the Blues for a permanent transfer. With the 23-year-old also keen on staying in London, the parties now just need to find the common ground at this meeting.
