Last month, we covered the links between Leeds United and Club Brugge winger Noa Lang being reawakened, with the Whites said to be pushing for his signing.

The 23-year-old had been linked to Leeds since Marcelo Bielsa was in charge of the club, and the Dutch media now claimed that the pursuit of his signing continues.

Now as Lang gave De Telegraaf a long interview about his career and his aspirations, there’s probably a good reason for Leeds to be more confident about attempting to sign him.

The player claimed to be glad he turned down a move last summer, as he feels more prepared to take a new step out of Club Brugge this year.

“I felt I was ready for the next step and I still am. Only two weeks before the transfer market closed I tore my ankle ligaments,” Noa Lang told De Telegraaf.

“That’s kind of my life: nothing goes the easy way. But to answer your question: not at all. I am truly grateful to the club as this has been the most rewarding year of my young career so far. And it’s just a wonderful club, where I’m held in high esteem. I’m glad I turned down a last-minute offer.

“I am under contract until the summer of 2025, but would like to switch to make something that is good for Club Brugge and me. That will be fine, because I really learned a lot last season, partly because of the World Cup.”

Another interesting part of the interview was with Lang talking about his personality. He doesn’t try to hide from his bad boy reputation.

“Without knowing me, people think I’m arrogant. When I only say what I think. In this fake football world, they should appreciate that. But it is written down by some, whom I have never spoken to, and others take it up again. This has created a skewed image of me to the outside world. Of a problem boy, when that is not the case at all. I will always just be myself. I won’t change that for anyone. And that probably makes a lot of haters jealous.”

He also insists he’s not changing for anyone.

“No, I’m not the ideal son-in-law and I’m not going to be. I am supported in this by my mother who’s proud that I never pretend to be anything other than who I am. I also always fit well in a group of players and get along with almost everyone. But people have to make an effort to get to know me.”

Lang has ten goals and five assists in 33 appearances for Club Brugge this season. Leeds are just one of the clubs who ‘continue to push’ for his signing, and his current value on Transfermarkt is €15m.
