Mikkel Damsgaard has had a difficult start to life at Brentford since joining them from Sampdoria in the summer window.

The winger has been on the pitch for Just over 200 minutes and that came from seven games in all competitions, which includes one league start.

Tipsbladet had a chat with the 22-year-old, where he revealed that Brentford manager Thomas Frank has talked it to him regarding his lack of regular playing time.

“I have received an explanation from Thomas. We have talked about it, but I also hope I can prove to him that he needs me a bit more and I can help the team win some games. He still has a lot of faith in me, so I hope that I can be allowed to play some more,” he said.

The Denmark international further went on to dismiss claims he has failed to convince the Bees manager.

“No. I feel like he really has a lot of faith in me. But he has also felt that I have not been where I should be. Otherwise, of course, I would have played,” Damsgaard explained.

“So, I hope to show him that I am where I need to be, and he can trust me 100 percent in the difficult matches where you have to fight for victories. I want to show that I can do it too. I want to show going forward that I am ready to work for him and the team.”

His current situation at Brentford has resulted in rumours of AS Roma looking to take him away from the Premier League side. The attacker has now put these links to bed and also insisted he made the right decision by picking the Bees over other clubs.

“I have not heard of the rumour, and I do not know about it. I’m really happy to be here and I know I haven’t had the best start in terms of playing time, but my plan is to work my way into the team and start playing a lot,” he stressed.

“And then I hope to get many games for Brentford. I don’t think about other clubs. I just want to play here and prove myself in the Premier League.

“There has been a lot of interest. Especially after the European championship. I think we have kept a cool head and I have ended up in exactly the right place for me. Especially after my injury period.”

The Bees attacker, however, is worried his failure to feature regularly for Brentford may have an impact on his place in the national team for the Qatar World Cup.

“Yes, I fear not to start. I hope to play as much as possible – also when we get to the World Cup. It will be a big dream just to be there and play and to be able to start. I hope I can get some minutes so I can go to the World Cup in the best possible condition,” the Dane added.

“I want to play as much as possible before. To be sure of being selected, it also requires that you play, as Kasper [Hjulmand] has also said. He needs to get players in shape because we don’t have a lot of preparation time. I want to show that I am [prepared].”
