Pierluigi Gollini had his third experience with an English club last season, spending the campaign on loan at Tottenham Hotspur from Atalanta.

He’d previously been in the Manchester United youth system, then had a spell with Aston Villa, before moving to the Serie A club and building his reputation.

Tottenham decided to not move forward to secure the goalkeeper on a permanent transfer, knowing there’s little chance he’d push Hugo Lloris aside in the coming season. Instead, the London club secured Fraser Forster on a free transfer, allowing more of their transfer budget to be spent elsewhere.

Gollini now returns to Atalanta, although he’s not expected to stay there long, with multiple Serie A clubs keen on signing him this season. The priority for the 27-year-old will surely be regular football.

Despite leaving Tottenham, Gollini is clearly happy with his time at the club and has made that clear when speaking to the Italian media on Sunday.

Calcio Atalanta quote him as saying: “The year I spent at Tottenham was a formative year for me. I played together with some of the world’s strongest players, and I was with Lloris, one of the best goalkeepers in the world.”

Fiorentina are one of the clubs vying for his signature.
