Wolverhampton Wanderers are yet to match Borussia Mönchengladbach’s valuation for defender Nico Elvedi.
That’s according to Rheinische Post, who cover the player today and comments from director of football Roland Virkus on the matter.
Wolves have been heavily linked with the defender for several weeks after selling Nathan Collins to Brentford.
A deal looked extremely likely after it was reported that the player’s girlfriend had already okayed the move, after he had also done so, and had been looking for a house in Wolverhampton.
RP now say that is because Gladbach are expecting a ‘double-digit million’ amount for the player but Wolves have so far ‘offered less’. What their bid amounts to isn’t made clear but is seemingly nowhere near what the German side are looking for.
That’s led to a delay in the matter, with the player still in pre-season with his club and looking likely to remain there for the time being.
It’s likely frustrating for him and Gladbach, with Virkus admitting they’re keen to get a deal over the line as soon as possible.
“He (Elvedi) has performed excellently here for eight years, there comes a point at some point when the player is looking for a new challenge,” he said.
“That is not reprehensible. Then you have to see that you find solutions. We’re in, we’re in talks.
“There is still a lot to be done, but we want to clarify things as soon as possible so that we don’t start the season with an unclear situation.”
