The knee injury suffered by Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Gonçalo Guedes at Benfica may have stopped him from playing more for the Eagles, but apparently raised their chances of having him in their squad for longer.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today features a story claiming the winger’s time sidelined is an advantage the Lisbon side have in negotiations.
It’s claimed that at first, Wolves intention was to recover the investment they made in Guedes’ signing, as they spent €32.6m to buy him from Valencia in 2022.
Now with the injury and surgery, the Molineux side admit a new loan is the ‘way to follow’, and since there’s a good relationship with Benfica, they shall negotiate for the fresh spell.
The English side would even be hopeful that the Eagles could buy him now, given the financial capacity they’ve been showing recently.
It’s made clear that Guedes isn’t wanted by Julen Lopetegui, and with Roger Schmidt willing to have him in Lisbon, it becomes clear where he should be next season.
