Benfica’s chase for Wolverhampton Wanderers fullback Nelson Semedo is apparently continuing this summer.

The Eagles’ interest in the Wolves player had already been reported by the Portuguese media in January, when it was claimed they ‘dreamed’ of bringing him back to Lisbon.

Now it’s newspaper Correio da Manhã who write that Semedo is ‘desired’ by Benfica in the summer window.

The Eagles are expected to lose Gilberto, and now see the Wolves player as a replacement for him.

There’s no information on whether Semedo is willing to leave Molineux this summer, or even if Julen Lopetegui’s side would accept to let him go.

His contract with Wolves expires at the end of the season, but the club still hold an option to extend it for two further years.

This month, when speaking to the Lisbon media, Semedo claimed the doors are ‘always open’ for a return to Benfica, but that doesn’t mean he’d be keen on going back now.

The fullback belonged to the Eagles between 2012 and 2017, when he was sold to Barcelona.

Semedo joined Woles on a €32m move from the Catalan side in 2020, and has 99 appearances for the English club so far.
