Earlier on Monday, reports came out stating that Manchester City were being charged with more than 100 breaches of financial rules between 2009 and 2018.

This was immediately accompanied with claims that the club could end up having points deducted or be excluded from the Premier League, although that last part seems unlikely.

Either way, Manchester City, who have recently struggled a bit more on the pitch, find themselves in the news off it once again.

The club has since issued a statement claiming they were “surprised” by what had been published on Monday, but believed they would be cleared thanks to evidence in their favour.

Meanwhile, in Portugal, the whistleblower behind the Football Leaks scandal all those years ago, Rui Pinto, has spoken out about it, believing what he leaked has helped bring this forward.

He said on Twitter, relayed by O Jogo: “The Premier League has just accused Manchester City of various financial irregularities, in an investigation that began thanks to the Football Leaks revelation.”

Manchester City currently sit 2nd in the Premier League, five points behind Arsenal and two points ahead of their locals rivals Manchester United.
