Scoring the second in a 2-1 win over Chelsea in the EFL Cup, Edimilson Fernandes has already ensured his name is on the lips of West Ham fans for the foreseeable future.

The young Swiss attacking midfielder, bought towards the end of the transfer window, suffered a slow start to the season as he got acclimated to his new surroundings, but Slaven Bilic has started to trust him more and more as time has gone by.

Making an appearance in West Ham’s last five games, including two starts, the 20-year-old has jumped into the opportunity handed to him by the Premier League club with both feet, and is adoring every single bit of it.

Speaking to Le Nouvelliste in Switzerland, Fernandes joked he has gotten so used to life in England, he ‘might not even remember how to drive on the right-hand side of the road’ were he to drive in Switzerland.

Helped by a lot of French-speaking teammates at West Ham, the Swiss international explained he spent most of his time with them, even eating evening meals together.

He said: “It’s with them that I’m developing. Arthur [Masuaku] calls me everyday for dinner. Before, I only saw these players on TV. In fact, I still don’t think I’ve come to terms with the fact that they’re my teammates.

“Payet scores some incredible goals in games, but you haven’t seen him at training. He has really impressed me.”

Understanding English rather well, the youngster admits he still relies on his teammates at times to help him get a message across, but he knows he’ll get there as he’s currently taking lessons with a teacher.

Either way, he’s enjoying life, and that’s always a good start at a new club.
