Needing a new centre-back following the unfortunate injury to Nayef Aguerd, West Ham United decided to bring in Thilo Kehrer from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Germany international didn’t seem to be in the plans of their new manager Christophe Galtier, and was allowed to seek a new adventure, which he eventually found with the Hammers.

Kehrer has played in every game he’s been available for since arriving at West Ham, with David Moyes trusting him from the off.

While the start of the season hasn’t entirely gone to plan for the London club, the defender still keeps playing, which earned him a call-up in Hansi Flick’s latest squad for the international break.

Now with the Germany national team, preparing to face Hungary and England, Kehrer sat down with the media to talk about various subjects, including his decision to swap Paris Saint-Germain for West Ham.

Relayed by Kicker, he said: “After the time at PSG with many titles, it felt like I wanted to play a new role in a team, I want more responsibility. That’s what West Ham asked of me, that’s what I expect of myself. I’m sure that this step will help me in my personal development.”

The outlet point out that he never answered whether he would have moved to West Ham were it not for the World Cup in Qatar, but he did state he wants to have ‘as much rhythm as possible’ before the tournament to get a chance of making Flick’s final squad.

Other than that, he added he has ‘settled in well’ at West Ham, despite the club’s poor start to the campaign.
