On June 8th, Bild reported Borussia Dortmund will have to battle it out with West Ham United and another club for Ajax’s Edson Álvarez.

The Bundesliga side have received in excess of €100m from Jude Bellingham’s sale to Real Madrid and plan to invest the majority of that fee on signings. They have identified the midfielder as a top target.

Another report from Bild claims BVB’s ‘transfer wobbles’ because Ajax have ‘suddenly’ decided to raise the asking price to €45m.

The German club are offering a club-record fee of €35m for the Mexico international, who is keen to make a switch to the Signal Iduna Park. It’s claimed West Ham also ‘want Dortmund’s dream player’.

David Moyes’ side seem to have identified the 25-year-old as a potential target to replace Declan Rice.

It’s stated West Ham have stepped in and ‘offer a higher transfer fee and significantly more salary than Dortmund’ are planning to propose for the player. This is the ‘problem’ for the German club to sign Álvarez in the summer.

Ajax sporting director Sven Mislintat had a spell at BVB in the past but Bild suggest this won’t matter when negotiating a deal for Álvarez.

With West Ham offering a higher fee to Ajax, they could conclude the deal, should they manage to convince the Mexican.
