Wolverhampton Wanderers are ‘still behind’ Atlético Madrid’s Geoffrey Kondogbia, as per Wednesday’s AS.

The Premier League side asked about the midfielder in the winter market and it’s stated they will return to for him in the summer window.

Wolves will be without João Moutinho next season and Rúben Neves, who is reportedly keen on joining Barcelona, could also leave Molineux. The Atlético player could be an option and AS’s title reads: ‘Wolves insist on Kondogbia’.

Julen Lopetegui wants a new midfielder and the newspaper says the 30-year-old ‘fits’ with what the English club are looking for, both financially and sporting wise. With a year left on his deal, it’s said Los Rojiblancos expect a fee around €5-6m.

Beşiktaş have already made a €2.5m offer for the player, who’s assessing whether it’s best to make a switch to England.

Mundo Deportivo also mention Beşiktaş’ €2.5m bid and then add it hasn’t satisfied Diego Simeone’s side. It’s claimed the former Valencia man will leave Atlético and ‘prefers to go to England than Turkey’, where Wolves are showing interest in him.

Like AS, even the Catalan newspaper states Kondogbia ‘fits perfectly’ at Wolves because of his profile and they won’t have to spend big to secure his services.
