Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Füllkrug has admitted he could have moved to the Premier League his summer, following links to West Ham United.

The striker has been speaking to SportBILD after a busy summer that saw him join Dortmund from Werder Bremen following months of speculation about his future at the latter.

The German had been attracting attention from the Premier League since the January transfer window last year as he continued to score goals for Bremen.

West Ham were one of those credited with an interest, with it reported back in March that they were eyeing up a potential summer deal.

Several reports after that continued to name them as a club who wanted him, particularly after they allowed Gianluca Scamacca to return to Italy.

A deal never happened, though, with it regularly reported that Füllkrug had set his sights even higher.

That seemingly worked out for him in the end as he secured a move to Dortmund, who offer him the chance to compete for the Bundesliga and play in the Champions League.

He’s more than happy with his decision and, while stopping short of naming West Ham outright, says he had the chance to move to England.

“I then thought about it during the transfer phase,” he said.

“Shortly afterwards it became clear to me: If I take a step, it has to be one that makes me feel a tingling sensation in my stomach.

“For example, I could have gone to England, to a club that plays internationally. But I didn’t feel that tingling sensation to leave Werder.”
