The Belgian football league has been called to a halt prior to it splitting into two groups. The split happens every year, and sees fights for the championship, European places and relegation happen in two separate mini-leagues.
This year that won’t happen, with Club Brugge declared champions given the Covid-19 situation.
Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany took over Anderlecht at the beginning of the season in a player-coach role. He was meant to be overseeing something of a revolution at the club, yet they’ve seriously struggled and ended the season in eighth position.
He believes they could have gone on to get a European place, but that’s now not to be. There’s going to be money problems and big decisions at the club this summer, but Kompany has explained he’s used to pressure, given all that he achieved at Manchester City.
HLN quote the defender as saying: “With City, we went to the top of the world from scratch. All these years the pressure came only from within. The internal pressure determined the agenda, never the external pressure. You set high standards and if you achieve them, you set even higher ones. You always strive internally for positive energy and you try to banish the negative energy.”
Kompany usually got very good press in England, although he’s right to say a lot was expected of him and his Manchester City team.
