On Monday, we covered claims from L’Equipe that Paul Pogba remains determined to leave Manchester United this summer.
The French newspaper talked down a potential move to Juventus, going against what has been claimed in the Italian sport media, and instead presented Real Madrid as the prime destination.
L’Equipe reported there’d been serious attempts from Madrid last summer, and that goes again much of the reporting in Spain. Marca and other newspapers close to the La Liga club have long presented a battle, one which has seen Zinedine Zidane want the player and Florentino Perez not feeling he’s worth the effort.
The potential of Pogba using FIFA’a Article 17 was also covered. Whilst it was made clear it’s not the Manchester United player’s intention right now, L’Equipe said he could buy himself out of the remainder of his contract, meaning there’s nothing the Red Devils could do.
AS have covered all that today, and the interesting snippet from them is Real Madrid ‘would not be in favour of forcing so much’.
That makes sense.
Perez has mellowed in recent years and isn’t as up for transfer fights as he was in the past. That he’d ignore all that and launch into a legal battle with Manchester United, for a player he’s not entirely convinced on, seems unlikely.
