As outlet Sport Italia today features an interview with Epic Sports’ agent Andrea Pellegatti, they do try to highlight that he worked on Sardar Azmoun’s transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to AS Roma this summer, but can’t ignore the other bigger move he was involved in.

The representative was responsible for taking Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion to Chelsea, and as mentioned by the website, that’s the most expensive transfer in the history of the Premier League.

That’s how they started their interview, first asking what was the real price that the Blues paid to take the midfielders out of the Seagulls.

“£116m, equivalent to €133m,” Pellegatti told Sport Italia.

“This is the result of a long work on the player, who quickly burnt his bridges in England after having passed through Belgium. With De Zerbi he exploded and then came Chelsea and Liverpool who contended for him.”

The agent was then asked to continue talking about the ‘auction’ won by Chelsea.

“‘That’s right, the amount paid is no accident. It was finalised in the last few hours, but the boy only wanted Chelsea, who had started to express their interest in a consistent manner since January.”

Brighton had spent €28.2m to sign Caicedo from Independiente Del Valle in 2021. Even though that’s a low amount compared to what they sold him for, that was still a big bet when taking him out of Ecuador.

Since his arrival at Chelsea this summer, the midfielder has four appearances made. He returned from international break with a knee injury, and it’s unclear when he’ll be back with the Blues.
