Still fighting for the top spot going into Thursday night’s game, Lille needed a win against Celtic to stand a chance of achieving that goal.

However, it wasn’t to be, as Neil Lennon’s men decided to put their poor form behind them and surprised everyone by walking away victors with a 3-2 scoreline.

Celtic controlled the fixture, with La Voix du Nord explaining the French side ‘ran after the ball and the score rather than the first spot in the group’, despite the ‘proud’ Scottish club having little to play for.

That pride is what drove them to a win at Parkhead, determined to exit their European adventure on a high.

They were led Christopher Jullien’s return helped Celtic considerably, as the Frenchman only played his second Europa League fixture of the season.

Described as ‘unflappable’ by Le Figaro, his display ‘symbolised Celtic’s serenity who never panicked’.

As for David Turnbull, his performance was deemed ‘unstoppable’ by the magazine, as he set up Jullien’s goal from a corner before being involved in the penalty won a few minutes later.

All in all, a great night for Celtic, who will now turn their attention to the league, hoping to use this win as the catalyst to turn their season around.
