Cenk Tosun’s proposed move to Everton is big news in Turkey, with the prospect of the Besiktas forward being sold for a record transfer for a Turkish league player.

Numerous Turkish media outlets have reported on the player’s transfer to Everton, and now the country’s Sports Minister Osman Askin Bak has had his say.

Sporx have reported on comments Bak made to the Anadolu Agency about Tosun’s potential transfer to Everton: “Cenk absolutely deserved a transfer to the Premier League with his brilliant performances in the Champions League with Besiktas. He’s a wonderful player and he has such a great character. We are hoping other players will see him as an example in the future.”

Bak added: “It’s very important for our country to send our good players abroad to represent us. Cenk is an example of that. Hopefully, in the future, we can send more players to the top clubs around the world. I am very happy for him. On behalf of Besiktas family, we are really proud of him. We hope he has luck in England, I hope he’ll represent our country there.”

Earlier today we covered reports from Turkey that Tousn’s move to Everton is close, and all that needs agreeing on is the finer details of the deal. It’s expected the attacker will sign a four and half year deal with the Premier League side.

Last night the Turkey international said his goodbyes to the Beskitas’ fans, with reports the transfer should be completed next week.
