Italian newspaper Tuttosport brings a front page today featuring Wolverhampton Wanderers star Raul Jimenez, as well as a big story on Juventus’ chase for him.
That would make you think the Old Lady are ready to splash some big money on the Mexican striker, but that’s really not the case.
Tuttosport first writes that Juve are looking for a partner for Cristiano Ronaldo. Although Napoli’s Arkadiusz Milik has always been their first option, Jimenez now emerges as an alternative.
The newspaper takes claims from the English media to say Juventus recently made an approach for the player, and doesn’t really seem to have big information on how the talks have been.
It’s claimed that Wolves value Jimenez at €50m, which is seen as a big price for the Italian side.That’s why they would trust their good relationship with Jorge Mendes to find a deal. Since the super agent helped them on the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, they trust he could do it again.
And that’s where the strangest part comes. Tuttosport says a solution would be to sign Jimenez on a long loan, of two years, and only pay for the transfer in 2022. That is seen as ‘more viable option’ than a swap involving Gonzalo Higuain, who’s more likely to move to Argentina or MLS.
So on behalf of all Wolves fans, we wonder what’s the worst option. Letting the club’s biggest star go and wait for two years to get the money, or swap him for a 32-year-old Gonzalo Higuain, who’s scored five league goals this season.
