Josip Brekalo has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur over the past 24 hours or so, and the claims have made their way to Wolfsburg’s local media.

The initial claim was small. Very small. Italian website Calciomercato reported: ‘The 1998 born Croatian forward Josip Brekalo, expiring in 2023 with Wolfsburg, is liked by Tottenham.’

It’s snowballed, albeit it slowly, from that.

But German newspaper Aller-Zeitung has a message for any Spurs interest, citing the claims, and says they’re almost certainly going to have to wait.

Wolfsburg aren’t interested in a January sale and, crucially, neither is the player. He’s not convinced on rushing things and wants to stay around until the summer at least.

Should Spurs interest be genuine then hanging fire is a good plan. Brekalo is just breaking through, he needs more minutes under his belt to be anywhere near ready to walk into Tottenham’s team, or even play a meaningful role as a substitute.

The only way a January transfer would make sense is signing-to-loan-back, therefore securing the player. But that’s no mention of that and nothing to suggest Tottenham have made any kind of approach.
