Manchester City let Claudio Echeverri return to River Plate on a loan deal in January, after completing his signing in the same window.
The temporary deal expires at the end of this year and the Argentine club want to extend his stay beyond December.
Last month, ESPN Argentina reported River Plate have continued to hold talks with Manchester City for the 18-year-old. It was also stated they remain hopeful of convincing the Citizens.
D Sports now backs up the South American club’s desire and Pep Guardiola’s stance with the attacking midfielder.
The Argentina U23 international has scored four goals and registered four assists from 36 appearances in all competitions this year.
It’s claimed the River Plate management requested Manchester City to renew the young player’s loan deal.
The report further states the Premier League winners have ‘denied the request’ made by River Plate. They add Manchester City have made a ‘conclusive decision’ with regards to Echeverri’s future.
At this stage Echeverri will return to the Etihad in January. It needs to be seen whether Guardiola will include him in his plans, or the Citizens will loan him out to another club.
