Bart Verbruggen will not remain at Brighton and Hove Albion for much longer if he maintains his current trajectory.
That’s according to Jaap Stam, via Voetbal Primeur, who has been left very impressed by what he’s seen of the Brighton goalkeeper and thinks a major move isn’t too far away.
Verbruggen has enjoyed a rapid rise in the last few year, first establishing himself as the number one at Anderlecht before a €20m move to Brighton in July 2023.
He spent his first season on the south coast battling with Jason Steele as Roberto de Zerbi continually rotated but is now the undisputed starter under Fabian Hürzeler.
That’s helped the 22-year-old to establish himself on the international stage, where he is now the undisputed number one for the Netherlands after winning over manager Ronald Koeman.
The Brighton goalkeeper appears destined for a very bright future indeed and has already been tipped for big moves, with him recently touted as the ideal replacement for Manuel Neuer at Bayern Munich.
Stam can certainly see a big money move coming before too long and can’t see the goalkeeper staying at Brighton for too long if he continues to impress.
“I can’t imagine that this boy won’t go to a big club in the foreseeable future. I am impressed by his goalkeeping qualities,” he said on the Stam & Weijland podcast.
“His reflexes are incredibly good. He catches important balls, but also on the ball… He has that, calm in the way he plays.
“And his passing… He is incredibly consistent in the way he plays and incredibly important for Brighton, in what they want to do. I can’t imagine this boy playing for Brighton for much longer.”
