Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund sounds genuinely excited as he gets set to welcome a new manager to Old Trafford.
Following Erik ten Hag’s exit from the club, Manchester United are paying to take Rúben Amorim from Sporting CP.
There could be bug changes on the way at the Premier League club, with it not known yet whether the manager will try to fit the players he’ll have into his usual three-at-the-back formation or be more flexible with his approach.
At the other end of the pitch, Højlund will be hoping Amorim can work wonders with him and replicate some of the success Viktor Gyökeres has had at Sporting.
Denmark’s Viaplay have spoken to Højlund to try and get his thoughts on what’s ahead, and Tipsbladet quote him as saying: “I’m really looking forward to it. Good ideas. I have seen how they play. I have spoken to Morten (Hjulmand, Sporting midfielder) about it, and he is also very satisfied with the coach, so I am really looking forward to him setting foot here.”
Asked when he first became aware of Amorim, the Manchester United player explained: “I don’t quite know that. After all, we just generally talk at the club, or when we are with the national team, about how things are going. There he (Morten Hjulmand) just talked about cool ideas and a slightly different approach than he might be used to.”
At 39-years-of-age, Amorim will be one of the youngest managers in Premier League history, and Højlund thinks that can only be a positive. He also touched upon the formation questions: “From what I’ve seen so far, it’s a three-back chain, and it might be a little different from what I’ve been used to in the past. So it will be exciting to see how he will implement his ideas, and I am very much looking forward to working with a young and ambitious manager.
“I think it is only good. He has an understanding of what the new, modern football is like. I don’t necessarily see it as a bad thing that he is young. On the contrary, it might even give something extra.”
