Napoli have made Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso ‘the big goal’ for this transfer window, with President Aurelio de Laurentiis picking up the phone to reiterate his desire for a transfer.

That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who say the Italian has ‘reiterated’ the Italian champions’ desire to sign him.

The newspaper explains that Lo Celso has everything Napoli are looking for as they look to adjust their midfield and replace Tanguy Ndombele who has returned to Tottenham.

He is the player that the club’s technical staff have identified to ‘further enrich itself’ and, as they were a year ago, Napoli are pursuing a deal once again.

There is a belief that the deal can be done, perhaps on the basis of an expensive loan with a purchase option set at ‘acceptable levels’. The idea is that they work out the loan and leave the value of the purchase clause for a later date.

Napoli have been in touch with the player about a move and shown their ‘unshakable faith in his talent’.

Whether he ends up in Naples remains to be seen, with several other clubs, namely Aston Villa, Barcelona and Real Betis all keen on a deal too and having their own pulling power.

It may end up being a case of the Tottenham man making a decision himself, but Napoli have certainly returned after showing interest last year.
