Chelsea have pushed forward to beat West Ham United to the signing of Stade Rennais midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the 19-year-old has been in negotiations with Chelsea for about ten days after being courted by West Ham.

The newspaper explains that while Chelsea are targeting a move for Moisés Caicedo and he is the priority, the work to reinforce their midfield continues elsewhere.

They’ve set their eyes firmly on Ugochukwu, who could ‘look elsewhere’ from Rennes this summer after enduring limited playing time in Ligue 1 last season.

He is not a priority signing for the Blues but does fit in with their newfound desire to scoop up talent from all around the world and thus they have been talking to him for well over a week.

The nature of the deal for the midfielder isn’t made clear at this point but negotiations appear to be underway, with the Blues pushing to get the youngster ahead of rivals West Ham.
