Tottenham want defender Cristian Romero back for the start of the Premier League on Boxing Day after his success at the World Cup with Argentina.

That’s according to his father, who has told La Voz that Tottenham “already want him back in England” despite featuring in the final on Sunday.

Romero played a key part in Argentina’s success in Qatar, featuring in all seven of their games during the tournament.

He battled back from a hamstring injury that had seen him miss Tottenham’s last four games before the international break.

He played all 120 minutes of the final against France on Sunday and was expected to take a break before Tottenham return to Premier League action against Brentford on December 26th.

That will certainly be the case for many of his Argentina teammates and has been the same for most players who have featured in the World Cup over the last month or so, with many taking short holidays before returning to their clubs.

It seems, though, Tottenham have no intention of letting Romero stop and instead want him back as soon as possible.

“He won’t have much time to enjoy himself. We’ll see how it goes. But they already want him back in England,” his father told La Voz when asked about how long Romero will remain in Argentina.
