Manchester United are keen on signing Bayern Munich defender Matthijs De Ligt, according to the latest claims from Germany.

Sky Deutschland writes that Red Devils’ manager Erik ten Hag is ‘very interested’ in bringing the player to Old Trafford.

That transfer shouldn’t happen this month, though, with the outlet claiming that De Ligt is ‘not planning a winter escape’, especially because he’s set to get minutes due to Kim Min-jae’s trip to the Asia Cup.

Still, a summer move is ‘not out of question’, and that’s when Manchester United would have a chance to sign him.

The report insists that the defender would be a request from Erik ten Hag, though, pointing out De Ligt would be a top summer target in case the manager stays in charge of the Red Devils for next season. The duo worked together at Ajax between 2017 and 2019.

Matthijs De Ligt only has 12 appearances for Bayern Munich this season. The club are said to be considering new defenders, and it’s only likely they’ll let him go after they get one of those targets. That’s why a summer move is a lot likelier.

The Dutchman is now valued by Transfermarkt at €65m, and has a contract running until 2027.
