As Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Gonçalo Guedes is often involved in transfer dramas, it seems his winter move is also turning into one.

Recent reports from Portugal and Spain had been making it clear that the Wolves loanee should leave his spell at Benfica to join Villarreal until the end of the season.

However, as Mais Futebol pundit Nuno Farinha comments on the situation, he claims that Guedes’ departure from Benfica isn’t completely sorted.

The Eagles are currently in talks to sign Benjamin Rollheiser, and the Wolves player’s situation is key for them to decide whether to make the transfer now or in the summer.

It’s said Guedes wants his ‘immediate’ future to be far from Benfica, and has been ‘insisting’ on leaving the club, ‘frequently asking’ them to let him go, but hasn’t achieved that yet.

So it now looks like it’s Benfica who’ve been holding the transfer back, even though they haven’t been making much use of the attacker lately.

Guedes only has 14 appearances for the club this season, with just 275 minutes played, so it’s strange that they don’t just let him move to Villarreal.

His contract with Wolves runs until 2027.
