Newcastle United’s chase for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is today highlighted by the Italian media.

Journalist Rudy Galetti now writes that ‘talks are ongoing’ between Magpies and the Citizens for a loan move.

Phillips himself is said to be keen to joining Newcastle, especially because he’s hopeful of having a place in the national team for the Euros this year.

Galetti says the ‘talks are going’ as the Magpies are ‘keeping up their pressure’ to get him signed from Manchester City.

The reason the Italian media is covering this story is that Phillips had been drawing interest from Serie A sides lately.

However, through the past week, the local reports haven’t been very confident that he’d move to Italy, claiming he’s now more likely to move to Newcastle, especially with Juventus backing away.

Phillips only has 319 minutes for Manchester City this season, and hasn’t entered the pitch in the Premier League since the 4th of November. So it seems Pep Guardiola won’t mind seeing him leave in the middle of the season, unless he’s against reinforcing a league rival.
