The Argentine media is today full of stories about Brighton & Hove Albion’s chase for Valentin Barco, as they’re said to be close to landing the Boca Juniors player.

It had been Manchester City who first heavily linked to the player, although Pep Guardiola’s side never concluded the move.

Now Argentine outlet Bolavip today features a story with two reasons why the treble winners never placed an official bid for Barco.

The first is Barco’s behaviour, as he had trouble with two Boca Juniors coaches and that ended up weighing for Manchester City and the City Group not go for for him.

The second issue is that, according to Bolavip, the midfielder doesn’t fit in any clubs from the City Group. They know he’d need to gain experience somewhere else before joining Pep Guardiola’s side, and don’t see a place for him in any of their teams.

“Today I don’t see his profile for any team in the group. That’s also why I don’t think he’s a player we can sign,” said Bolavip’s sources.

“We used to invest in players to loan and then sell, but today with so many teams it’s difficult.”

That’s why Brighton ended up finding an open path to get the signing done, and are now expected to conclude a deal in the next few days.
