Despite all the importance that Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has at the Argentine national team these days, he’s still expected to be benched in their next friendly.

As reported by TyC Sports, national team manager Lionel Scaloni is set to make a ‘surprise’ by using another player defending the goal, as Geronimo Rulli is set to get a chance.

However, that doesn’t mean that Martinez is risking losing his starting spot.

The story explains that there’s ‘no doubt’ the Aston Villa player is the number one in the World Cup, and the manager now simply wants to test other players to see who’s he taking to be the two reserves.

So Martinez is staying on the bench against Honduras, and for now, it’s still not known if he’s being used in the match against Jamaica or if Scaloni will give a third goalkeeper a chance to play as well.

If that’s the case, Martinez would then only be back in action on the 2nd of October, as Aston Villa visit Elland Road to play Leeds United.
