German ‘super talent’ Torben Rhein turned down an opportunity to join Arsenal in 2017.

That’s according to Sport1, who say the Gunners and Barcelona were interested in the 18-year-old when he was in Hertha Berlin’s academy.

Apart from those two clubs, Bayern Munich also showed interest and the treble winners were successful in securing his services.

Sport1 have also interviewed the young midfielder, and he was asked how the Bavarian club convinced him to turn down an approaches from Arsenal and Barca in favour of joining them.

“When, as a very young player, I heard that Bayern wanted me, it naturally triggered something in me. It was a whoah feeling,” he said.

“It is every player’s dream to play for a club like this one day. When I came to Munich and was shown the Allianz Arena, I came to the conclusion: I want to take this step! The club and this story convinced me.”

The Germany U18 international can operate as a No.6 or No.8, but he admitted playing as the latter helps to express himself.

Rhein joins a long list of players the north London club failed to sign over the years.

The teenager’s current deal with Hansi Flick’s side lasts until 2022 and he has clear objectives for the future.

“I want to win at FC Bayern. That is my clear objective. When, I don’t care. I don’t put any pressure on myself. I will do everything I can to be ready and when my chance comes, I want to take advantage of it,” he concluded.
