Portuguese newspaper A Bola give out a distinct feeling of déjà vu on Saturday, with Benfica stars potentially saying goodbye before a move to Manchester United. It’s claimed several Benfica players could be set to bid farewell to their home fans today, before big money summer moves.

Benfica play their last home match of the season today, against Vitoria de Guimarães, and could win the championship. But for players including Victor Lindelof and Nelson Semedo, it could be the final time they run out at Estadio da Luz as a Benfica player.

A Bola and other Portuguese newspapers run stories like this ahead of every transfer window, and Lindelof had similar treatment in January. Manchester United is, of course, named as the player’s possible destination in a move A Bola believe will be worth around €45m.

All eyes will be on Lindelof and others after the match, to see if they give any clues they’re off. Semedo is also linked with a possible Manchester United move, so the media will be looking for a tear in his eye.

These claims will carry on in the Portuguese press. When Benfica play in the cup final at the end of the month, also against Vitoria de Guimarães, the potential goodbyes will be reported, and it’ll be the same when the club’s players fly away for their summer holidays.

Will Manchester United actually sign a Benfica player this summer? It’s got to happen sooner or later.
