Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has emerged as a possible target for Barcelona. The Catalan club may look to bring in a left back for next season, and the Chelsea player could be option, according to the Spanish press.
Mundo Deportivo have reported on Barcelona needing to strengthen on the left hand side in the next window with Lucas Digne, Jordi Alba, and Jeremy Mathieu all having indifferent seasons. The Catalan newspaper believe the versatility of Alonso would be a perfect fit for Barcelona, and they’ve gone as far to comparing him with former Camp Nou star Eric Abidal.
However, pulling off such a transfer would be difficult for Barcelona given the Spaniard is happy at Chelsea after the Premier League side won the league title last night.
Despite this Mundo Deportivo think Alonso moving back to La Liga would enhance his chances of making Spain’s squad, and hopefully team, for the World Cup in Russia next year.
Chelsea wouldn’t give up Alonso without a fight as the player is the ideal fit for Antonio Conte’s five man defence, but with the defender’s father representing Barcelona in the past a move could be hard to turn down.
