After becoming a free agent following many years as a Real Madrid player, Alvaro Arbeloa is heading back to the Premier League with West Ham.

According to Spanish radio station COPE, Alvaro Arbeloa is on the verge of signing for the Hammers and is currently passing a medical with the London club.

The 33-year-old was apparently close to joining Espanyol in Spain, but COPE’s information suggests the former Liverpool player has preferred a return to England.

A new right-back appeared to be something of a priority for Slaven Bilic, and the ability to bring someone who already knows the Premier League well, as well as arriving with a wealth of experience, should be a big bonus.

There is yet to be an announcement as to how long the veteran right-back will stay with West Ham, but a one or two year deal would make the most sense.

Maybe one year + the option of another?
