Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has been been speaking in Denmark, ahead of his country’s World Cup Qualifier against Poland. It’s a crucial time for the country’s national team, with a young generation hopefully on the verge of gelling and taking the country to the international tournament.

Højbjerg is facing a big challenge in his club career too. After two loans away from Bayern Munich, to Augsburg and Schalke, the midfielder made a permanent switch to Southampton during the summer transfer window.

The 21 year old was under no illusion of the challenge ahead in English football and has told Denmark’s Tipsbladet that he’s really enjoying himself in the Premier League.

“You get some experience, and you get some timing and some awareness about what to add to your game. You get the chance to measure yourself against some really good players, so it’s cool. There’s the high intensity of the Premier League and fighting. I love that. It’s about being very professional and aware of the small details of everyday life.”

The physical demands of the Premier League and consistent matches are an ask of any player, and Højbjerg explained that he’s having to make sure he sleeps well, eats healthilty, and does everything he can to make sure he’s physically in peak form.
