In search of a new centre-back, it appears Southampton have unleashed their scattergun on the transfer market.

Ralph Hasenhüttl seems very desperate to bring in a new defender before the end of the window, and while Loïc Badé was an option, he seems to be heading to Nottingham Forest.

That’s why it isn’t surprising to see Southampton linked with other names, such as Duje Caleta-Car and now Alexander Djiku.

The later is brand new, and it comes from RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, who claims the centre-back ‘could leave Strasbourg’.

That’s because ‘Sevilla and two English clubs, including Southampton, are pushing very hard’ to sign the 28-year-old, who only has a year left on his contract with the Ligue 1 side.

He has so far played in every game for Strasbourg this season, and also picked up one goal against Stade de Reims back on August 21st.

His contractual situation would suggest he would end up leaving on a full transfer, rather than a loan, and he also wouldn’t cost clubs all that much.

Still, we’ll have to wait and see, because Southampton aren’t going to just throw money at anyone, especially since they have already spent £50m this summer without getting a penny back from sales.
