Back in January, when Rick Karsdorp was on the edge of leaving Roma, Southampton were said to be one of the potential destinations for him.

The right-back had a bad relationship with José Mourinho, with the Giallorossi getting ready to sell him in the middle of the season, and the Saints were reported to be keen on his signing.

But the window closed and nothing happened. Now as written by Calcio Mercato, there’s a truce between Karsdorp and the Special One, with the player set to return to Roma’s squad.

Speaking of what happened in January, the report recalls Southampton’s ‘concrete’ attempt to sign the player, saying the Saints made one of the offers which were rejected by the Serie A side.

Calcio Mercato says all the attempts were for a loan with option to buy, and that’s why Roma chose not to sell him at that time. Now they don’t seem to regret that, as José Mourinho is ready to use the player once again.

So if Southampton try to sign Karsdorp next summer, they should face a whole different situation.
