According to reports in Italy, former Southampton defender Martin Caceres is set for a move to Lazio, but won’t start the season with the club.

The Uruguayan spent just a few months at Southampton, before being released by the Premier League side at the end of last season.

Alfredo Pedulla has reported Caceres will return to Italy, where he spent a successful period with Juventus. The central defender arrived in Rome yesterday to complete his move to Lazio, but the player isn’t expected to remain in the Italian capital.

Despite signing for Lazio he’ll be loaned out to fellow Serie A side Hellas Verona. The Southampton flop is currently undergoing a medical with Verona, before he joins the Italian club on a six month loan deal.

Caceres arrived at Southampton in February after being released by Juventus last summer. However, the South American played just one game for The Saints, during a forgettable spell in England.
