When Brentford signed Mikkel Damsgaard from Sampdoria this summer, there was quite a lot of expectation placed on the winger.

After all, he had been quite important to the Serie A side, and the Bees spent £13.5m on him, but, to date, he has only made seven appearances for the club.

Most of those have come from the bench, with him totalling 213 minutes, which is starting to worry Sampdoria, who were seemingly expecting an extra €500k from the deal due to a clause in his contract.

This comes from Club Doria 46, who explain that his lack of game time under Thomas Frank means ‘it seems difficult, at the moment, for Mikkel to reach a combined 10 goals or assists’, at which point Brentford would owe the aforementioned sum to the Italians.

He has yet to get either a goal or an assist for the Premier League club, and while it’s not stated whether this is only valid in his first year with Brentford, the fretting suggests it is.

We’ll have to wait and see, but they do add that two more clauses are also waiting to be triggered, with those coming over the next two years should the club avoid relegation from the Premier League.

With just nine games played, there’s plenty of time for that to develop, but, as things stand, there isn’t too much worry about the possibility of Brentford heading back down to the Championship just yet.
