Signing the likes of Noam Emeran and Hannibal Mejbri at a young age, Manchester United are clearly scouting the youth ranks of French football to try and spot the next gem.

With Erik ten Hag also likely to promote youth more and more as time goes on, it isn’t surprising to see the Red Devils continue to look for talent abroad, with Mathis Amougou the latest to be named as a target.

This comes from Peuple-Vert in France, a well-connected AS Saint-Etienne fan website, who claim the interest from Manchester United on Monday.

They describe the young midfielder as ‘one of the most promising players at the club’, and he is currently the captain of France’s U17s, as he ‘shines through his maturity and precociousness’.

His performances with AS Saint-Etienne’s U19s and the national team are certainly promising, and the 16-year-old is ‘followed with great attention’ by Manchester United.

In fact, the Red Devils are ‘regularly creating reports about him and have ticked his name among the big prospects to follow in France’.

That’s certainly something to keep an eye on, but his exit isn’t imminent, as the website explain the midfielder is under contract for two more years, expiring in 2024.

Therefore, the Ligue 2 side still have time to tie him down for the future, but ‘there will be a need to be wary since big teams know how to make themselves convincing’.

This certainly includes Manchester United, who have always been willing to spend on youth if the talent is there.
