Leeds United are facing competition from Real Sociedad for the signing of Blackburn Rovers star Ben Brereton.

That’s according to the Chilean edition of AS, who say national team manager Martín Lasarte has recommended the striker to his former club.

Brereton is currently ‘living one of the best moments of his career’ playing for Chile at the Copa America, where he is ‘gaining exposure’.

That has ‘put him in the showcase’ of the European market, and he is already being linked with a move away from Ewood Park, with Leeds named as suitors earlier this week.

They are believed to be scouting Brereton at the Copa America, with Marcelo Bielsa a big fan and making use of his connections in Chile to get the lowdown on him.

AS say they could face competition, though, with Real Sociedad ‘among the clubs’ following the 22-year-old.

The newspaper makes it clear there are no open negotiations at this moment in time, but he is on the list of player that the recruitment team at Donostia are working on.

They have good reports in favour of the Blackburn Rovers man and have received a recommendation from Chile coach Martín Lasarte, who is a former La Real coach.

Leeds have similarly received good reports and ‘expressed an interest’ in the player, who recently scored his first goal for his nation.

The Whites may have to move quickly, though, with Sociedad showing an interest, particularly if they lose Alexander Isak this summer.
