The second that Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United was confirmed, we knew the knives would be out in Italy.

The Portuguese superstar’s move to Juventus can hardly be labelled a disaster given the number of goals he scored there, but there is plenty of evidence to back up the idea it was not the success they had hoped for.

Juve’s Serie A dominance has now gone and the Champions League is as far away as it has been at any point in recent years.

Juventus spent a lot of money to bring Ronaldo to the club, though, and have taken a huge hit to get him out of the club and back to Manchester United this summer.

Thus, there were always going to be negative comments about him once it was done, with a figure like Ronaldo an easy target and there plenty to be said about the move.

We’ve seen that over the last few weeks, with numerous comments from various people about his time in Italy.

Now former Juventus man Massimo Mauro has joined the chorus, although his knife is a little less sharp than the others directed at Manchester United’s returned hero.

“As for Ronaldo, he needs to get it out of his head that he’s the best ever,” he told Tuttosport.

“He has so many ahead of him. But he is a formidable player, and he will be missed.”
