Watford have joined a handful of Italian clubs in chasing AS Monaco’s Antonio Barreca.

That’s what TuttoMercatoWeb are reporting, and according to the portal, there is a ‘request from Watford’ to sign the left-back.

The 25-year-old joined the Ligue 1 side from Torino in 2018, but has spent the last 18 months on loan at Newcastle United and Genoa.

It’s claimed the Italian defender is ‘ready for a new chapter in his career’, suggesting he could leave Niko Kovač’s side before the window closes on Monday.

There is ‘no shortage of proposals’ for the fullback. TMW states the likes of Crotone and Fiorentina have gathered information about the player in recent weeks, and now ‘there is also an English request’, which has come from the Championship side.

As per the report, Watford are looking for reinforcements to help them return to the Premier League next season, and they have now made a ‘request’ for Barreca.

TMW doesn’t specify whether the English club have requested to take Barreca on loan or on a permanent transfer.

Barreca, who has not featured for Monaco this season, made 19 appearances in all competitions with Genoa last season.
