While they do say that third time’s a charm, that wasn’t the case for Liverpool when it came to their attempts to signing Roméo Lavia from Southampton.
It’s no secret that the Reds have been after the Saints star for a while now, but their efforts have been rebuked each time, leaving Jürgen Klopp’s side with a decision to make.
Sacha Tavolieri brings the latest update on the situation, as it’s claimed that the latest bid from Liverpool of £45m, which includes any add-ons, was turned down by Southampton.
This certainly wasn’t what the Premier League side will have wanted, and it shows just how valuable the Championship side feel their midfielder is.
They know Liverpool really want him and are certainly playing hard to get, but there might be a point where they will have to let him go.
However, whether the Reds return or not remains to be seen, as Tavolieri explains now is a ‘real time for reflection’ at Anfield over what to do next.
In fact, with the deal so close, there’s a feeling it would be a ‘big waste’ to stop now, even if the Reds are evaluating their options.
