On Thursday, Italian outlet Sportmediaset reported that Claudio Marchisio has reached an agreement with French side AS Monaco.

The news was widely covered by the European press, with some outlets focusing on the fact that the player would’ve rejected Steven Gerrard and Rangers to make the move.

Now the French media is on the story, and although RMC Sport claims to have confirmed the news from Sportmediaset, they bring a different approach to the information, and it’s positive for the Ibrox club.

RMC only says that Marchisio has been negotiating with Monaco. He’s been in France doing it personally, which obviously means things are at an advanced stage, but they don’t report any kind of deal.

The outlet also adds that Rangers and Flamengo are still in talks for the midfielder, so perhaps it’s not over for the Glasgow and Brazilian sides.

Marchisio is a free agent since leaving Zenit this summer, so a good contract should be enough to sign him.
