Willian José came close to leaving Real Sociedad in the winter market.
Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign the striker following a serious injury setback to Harry Kane.
The Brazilian was so keen on joining Spurs that he asked his club to leave him out of the squad for the clash against Espanyol in January.
Unfortunately for the 28-year-old, the transfer to the north London club didn’t take shape and he’s been forced to continue at Sociedad.
Sport now claims the South American’s decision to force a transfer to Tottenham by asking La Real to drop him from the squad against Espanyol has ‘created a great discomfort’ for the La Liga side and their fans.
It wasn’t just Spurs, Sport state ‘First he was negotiating with Tottenham…’ before then being tempted by Barcelona. From being an ‘idol’, he’s now ‘no longer loved’.
Willian returned to action in February, but has struggled to impress since then and hasn’t scored for more than two months. He has been a substitute in the last two league ties and the report states his situation will hardly improve, with 20 year old Alexander Isak taking his status.
Therefore, the player’s departure from Sociedad in the summer is ‘very likely’, even though he has a contract until 2024 and a release clause of €70m.
Whether Tottenham are still interested in Willian José remains to be seen.
