Chelsea are one of the clubs keen on signing River Plate’s Ian Subiabre and the Argentina media has reported on this over the past few months.
On April 14th, River Noticias stated the 18-year-old’s agent, Claudio Caniggia, travelled to London to hold talks with Chelsea. They also reported the representative is trying to take his client to Stamford Bridge in the summer window.
La Página Millonaria backs up the agent’s trip to London and provides the latest on Chelsea’s pursuit of the winger.
The Premier League club have been monitoring the Argentina U20 international for a while and have maintained contacts. The report adds Chelsea made a ‘more concrete approach this time’.
Subiabre’s contract expires in December 2026, and it includes a $30m [€26.4m] release clause. This is the fee the South American club are demanding to sanction his sale in the upcoming window.
However, Enzo Maresca’s side aren’t completely convinced of this price and therefore, the operation for the youngster has been ‘put on hold’. Chelsea could change their stance, but for now, there isn’t any progress.
This would please River Plate, who haven’t received an official offer for Subiabre yet.
